From the nine months of full-term pregnancy to the nine primary
planets of the galaxy in which we live, the number nine is known to
represent universal influence, power, and completion.
It has, consequently, become commonplace to convey ultimate
concepts in such colloquialisms as “the whole nine yards,” “the
whole nine,” “to the nines,” and “to the nth degree.”
Not only did the life Kwame Nkrumah, first president of Ghana,
embody the essence of the number nine, his entire existence was an essay
on its exemplification. Nkrumah
was born on September 18, 1909. Although
the actual day of his birth was originally and erroneously recorded as the
21st, Nkrumah himself correctly calculated it to be the 18th.
Thus, his birth date not only contained a “personal”
nine day (18=1+8=9), it also occurred in the ninth month of the
year and the ninth year of the century.
Even the fact that he was an only child did not exempt him from
receiving the nomenclature of Nkrumah, which means ninth child in his
native language.
At the time, his birthplace was called Gold Coast.
The name Gold Coast consists of nine letters. The specific town where he was born, Nzima, has a name number
of nine: N=5+Z=6+I=9+M=4+A=1 which totals 27(2+7=9). The tribe that Nzimas belong to is the Akan.
Akan also has a name number of nine: A=1+K=2=A=1+n=5 which totals
9.
Within the Akan, Nkrumah belonged to the Anona clan.
Anona has a name number of nine: A=1+N=5+O=6+N=5+A=1 which totals
18 (1+8=9).
Although there were innumerable influences on the political
development of Nkrumah, the three most significant ones were Marcus
Garvey, C.L.R. James, and George Padmore.
Both Marcus Garvey and C.L.R. James have name numbers of nine:
M=4+A=1+R=9+C=3+U=3+S=1+G=7+A=1+R=9+V=4+E=5+Y=7
which totals
54 (5+4=9),
and C=3+L=3+R=9+J=1+A=1+M=4+E=5+S=1
which totals 27 (2+7=9).
And just as Kwame Nkrumah’s last name is a denotative nine,
George Padmore’s last name is a numerological nine:
(P=7+A=1+D=4+M=4+O=6+R=9+E=5 which totals 36; 3+6=9).
Nkrumah’s plans to enter the portals of political power took 27
months to execute (2+7=9). The
crucial election from which he emerged as leader of government business
had garnered him 22, 780 out of 23, 122 votes the margin of difference was
342 votes (3+4+2=9).
In order to give the people of the Gold Coast a greater platform in
government policy, Nkrumah established local councils which totaled 270
(2+7+0=9). The critical
election to which his Convention People’s Party was required to obtain a
majority in order to form a government resulted in victory.
The exact number of seats won was 72 (7+2=9).
When Nkrumah officially transformed the Gold Coast into Ghana, the
date of independence was in the third month of the year and on the sixth
day of the month (3+6=9). He
then ruled Ghana for nine years (1957-1966).
During that time, he succeeded in siring the Organization of
African Unity. The OAU was
born in the 63 year of the century (6+3=9).
Nkrumah spent the final part of his life in Conakry, Guinea which
has a name number of nine: C=3+O=6+N=5+A=1+K=2+R=9+Y=7+G=7+U=3+I=9
+N=5+E=5+A=1 which totals 63
(6+3=9). Guinea’s
president, Sekou Toure, made Nkrumah co-president of Guinea. Sekou Toure was born on the ninth day of the month.
Kwame Nkrumah died on the 27th day of the month (2+7=9)
and in the 72 year of the century (7+2=9).
Through the pan-Afrikan influence of his writings and work, the
power of his politics and party, the completion of such paramount projects
as the independence of Ghana and the formation of the OAU as well as the
numerological pattern that permeated his entire passage from birth to
death, Kwame Nkrumah ‘s life and legacy are a classic and comprehensive
study of the number nine – to the nth degree.
